Public IP Address Terms
Terms and Conditions for Assignment of Public IP Address
1. Assignment of Public IP Address
Scope: The Public IP address provided by 123NET will be assigned exclusively to your router device. Your internal network devices will remain protected behind your router's firewall and will not be directly exposed to the internet.
2. Awareness of Security Risks
Acknowledgement: By accepting a Public IP address, you understand that your router device becomes directly accessible from the internet, increasing the risk of unauthorized access, cyber-attacks, and other security threats.
3. Customer Responsibility for Router Security
Monitoring and Maintenance: You are responsible for regularly monitoring your router for any suspicious activity or security breaches.
Firmware Updates: It is your duty to keep your router's firmware updated with the latest security patches.
Security Measures: You must implement appropriate security measures on your router, including but not limited to:
- Setting strong, unique administrative passwords.
- Enabling and configuring firewall settings.
- Disabling unnecessary services and ports.
- Utilizing encryption protocols where applicable.
Recommended Hardware: For enhanced security and reliability, we highly recommend using enterprise-level routers with advanced security features. Examples include devices from MikroTik, Ubiquiti, Cisco, D-Link, and Huawei.
4. Compliance with Applicable Laws and Regulations
Legal Use: You agree to use the Public IP address in compliance with all applicable South African laws and regulations, including but not limited to the Electronic Communications and Transactions Act and the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA).
Prohibited Activities: You will not engage in any illegal activities or actions that could harm the integrity of 123NET's services or negatively impact the broader internet community.
5. Right to Suspend or Remove Public IP Address
Discretionary Actions: 123NET reserves the right to suspend or remove the Public IP address assigned to your router at any time if we detect any security issues, misuse, or activities that could harm our network, other users, or violate South African laws.
Notification: We will endeavor to notify you of any such actions and provide assistance to resolve the underlying issues.
6. Limitation of Liability
Assumption of Risk: You assume all risks associated with the use of the Public IP address assigned to your router device.
No Liability: 123NET shall not be liable for any damages, losses, or expenses arising from unauthorized access, security breaches, or other security-related incidents involving your router.
7. Indemnification
Hold Harmless: You agree to indemnify and hold harmless 123NET, its affiliates, and employees from any claims, liabilities, or expenses arising from your use of the Public IP address assigned to your router.
