Lane definitions come straight from our own network. Netflix is served from a server inside the 123NET network, so it runs on your Local lane. ShowMax, YouTube, Facebook, Apple, Microsoft and Steam are hosted or cached in South Africa, or on networks we peer with directly, so they run on your National/Peering lane. Genuine overseas traffic uses your International lane.
Why we can do this
We built our own network — so the lanes are ours to give.
Three separate lanes are only possible because we own and run our fibre network end to end, rather than reselling capacity on one we do not control. It is also why a Netflix server sits inside our own network, on your Local lane, so that traffic never has to leave the building to reach you.
What that actually means at 8pm
The game does not wait for the stream
Local, National and International are separate lanes. Traffic in one cannot crowd out another.
The work call still works
Three lanes at full speed, at the same time. Nobody has to get off the internet so somebody else can use it.
